Project 1:Scientific

1.       What where some of your design solutions to the theme Scientific?
Some of my designs were butterflies, and an eye. I chose these because when I think of scientific, I think of body parts and different types of animals. I really liked the butterfly idea because I drew them flying off into the distance.
2.      How beneficial were the mini lessons in the success of your project. If they were not beneficial please explain as well.
The mini lessons were very helpful especially since It was the first project of the semester, and I hadn't drawn anything major before then. I would have liked more time to practice because when I started the project I didnt feel ready. However, once I started drawing I got the hang of it.
3.      How did you show contrast in your work?
I showed contrast in my work by showing the black and white values of the butterflies wings. The outer parts were darker than the inside. Throughout the center, I showed the different values as well. The part that contrasted the most was the butterflies against the light sky. I made sure to keep all parts of the sky lighter than the darkest parts of the butterflies to make the butterflies stand out.
4.      What medium did you decide to use? Why did you choose this medium over the others?
I chose the pencil, because throughout all the mini lessons I felt most confident in the medium. I think that when it comes to shading and showing values of things, the pencil is best for me to use. The charcoal and pen were hard for me to control, and it was hard to show technique with them.
5.      What techniques did you use to create this work?
I used the technique of shading throughout this project. By shading, I showed the different values of the butterflies as the sun hits them. I also used shading to showcase how the sky gets darker as it gets farther from the sky.
6.      We encourage risk taking in art. Risk taking can be as simple as trying a new technique or learning about a new medium to as complex as trying something totally new.  Did you take any risks with this project?
I think I took a risk when I decided to make the butterflies fly into the sun, because I had to make the sizes of the butterflies get smaller as they get farther away from eyesight. I also had to draw them from different angles, which was challenging at times.

7.      Discuss your overall experience with this project.
I really enjoyed this project, I think it was a perfect start to the semester. I am glad I chose pencil, it was the best medium to showcase the values of the butterflies, but still keep everything neat and orderly. My biggest challenge was drawing the wings of the butterflies symmetrical, but I think in the end I did well. Another challenge was surprisingly the small butterflies, because at first I could not get the shape right. In the end, I am proud of this project and I think I showed good value and contrast with the butterflies against the sky. It was a good first project in Art 2.

Stencil Art Hollywood

1. I went to Photoshop on the computer, put the hollywood sign picture in, then clicked threshold, and it put it in negative space.
2. The pictures i used in my background were not related to the stencil, I just picked pictures that had cool color schemes and that I liked.
3. To create my stencil I used an exacto knife to cut out  positive and negative space to show the value of the sign.
4. You have to be careful using the Exacto Knife, you should always cut slowly and under control, and always cut away from yourself.
5. The color I spraypainted my stencil shows the composition of the hollywood sign and the color contrasted to the colors of my background collage pictures.

Battleship Game Board Perspective Drawing

Vocabulary to use: , gradation, , , overlapping, , value, highlights, shadows

Describe your overall thoughts on the final piece.
How successful do you feel this piece is and why?
What worked about this project? What didn’t work?
If you were to do this project over again, what changes would you consider making?
What was the most difficult part about completing this piece and why?
What did you learn from this piece?

1. My overall thought is that I liked this project, but it wasnt my favorite, because perspective isnt my favorite art type.
2. I think this project was successful because using watercolor washes and blending it with colored pencils made the colors more vibrant.
3. What worked was the perspective of the drawing, I think I vanishing point and horizon line were good because it was at the right angle. What didnt work was that I Did the watercolor a little to dark and I should have been neater with the watercolor.
4. If i were to redo the project, I would change the color scheme and use less blue, and put more value in the ship pieces.
5. The most difficult part for me was giving the game highlights, shadows, and overlapping some pieces to make it look like its really sitting on the table.
6. I learned more about value and gradation in this project and making drawings come to life and look real.

anamorphasis

Grid       colored pencils anamorphosis                 photoshop        transform         scale
Perspective      shadows             value
1. I saved a picture of a cupcake and then went to photoshop and clicked transform and it put the cupcake in perspective. Then I put grid lines on it, and printed it.

2. Distorting the image puts the cupcake in perspective, and it looks like its really sitting on the paper.

3. The most important thing to do was to add value and scale to your cupcake by using colored pencils.

"The Hummingbird" Printmaking Project

1. The overall composition of my art, to me, is well balanced, because you can tell what everything is. I think I used good colors and they give the bird good movement. Overall, I think this was one of my best art projects.

2. There is good texture in my print, I used texture throughout the feathers and speckles in my bird and the flowers in the background. There is detail in the bird that gives the print alot of texture.

3. I used alot of negative space in the background because I didnt cut out the background, and the bird has mostly positive space because I cut things out to show detail.

4. There is good craftmanship in this art and there arent any stray lines, and the lines in the bottom feathers are good lines because they show texture in the feathers.

5. yes, there is depth because the bird is the foreground, the middle ground are the flowers, and the background are the twigs. This shows that the bird is flying around flowers and getting nectar.

6. One obstacle I had while doing the printmaking project, was understanding what to cut and what not to cut, and imagining what it would look like if you cut or didnt cut some parts, because once you cut something, you cant get it back.

Print scetch critique

1. Texture is important to have in your scetches because it shows the different values the animal has. It will also help us alot when we go to carve in the linoleam, because we will know what to carve and what to leave flat. The texture will also make the animal come to life and not make it look like its just a drawing.

2. Its necessary to have several images for reference for each animal because you can combine the images together. If you put the flowers with one background and the trees in another in your drawing, it makes it your own. You can also put the position of an animal in one picture with the texture and shades from another picture to make a new looking picure of an animal.

3. When I look at my sketches I can tell which one is the best. The best one is the one with the most range of texture. It is also the picture that has the best viewfinder position, and the one you think will have the most potential.

Chalk Mural

1. For me, I like to work in groups because everyone can share their ideas and work together. I think my group worked well together, and our project turned out great because we all got to work on it, not just one person. I think team work is the most important thing do use when your working in a group.

2. When working in a group, sharing ideas is important because when you combine ideas you have a better chance of having something creative. If someone has a better idea, its better to share to make the project better than to not say anything, I think my group collaborated their ideas alot and it made the project good.

3. I think this project was very successful, because there are alot of vibrant colors, and it looks like a real bookshelf. Adding pastels to the books made the mural come to life, instead of just having dull chalk colors.  The ladder also has alot of dark pastels that make it look like wood.

 4. Making a project that others can interact with is fun because you can see everyone posing in them and taking pictures with them. I see some of the pictures on facebook and intsagram and it makes you feel like your art is famous. The good thing is that the murals will probably last a long time and everyone can keep looking at them.
